 Signalling and Telecom
IRCON  has executed a large number of Electronic (Solid State) Interlocking and Relay based Interlocking Signalling installations in Iraq, Iran, Malaysia, Zambia, Bangladesh, Sharjah (UAE) and India. It has also successfully executed Telecommunication works for Turkish, Zambian, Malaysian and Indian Railways.

Currently IRCON is executing projects in Malaysia, Iran and India.

 
 Activities
With in-house design, execution, project management capabilities, IRCON provides turnkey solutions for all types of Signalling & Communication projects for both Railway and Non-Railway clients worldwide. IRCON can design and provide systems to suit varying needs of the client, from:
Mechanical Signalling to Solid State (Electronic) Interlocking including Centralized Traffic Control ( CTC), Audio Frequency Track Circuits, Block Proving Axle Counter, Axle Counter, Data Loggers, Hot Box Detectors, Flat wheel detectors, Automatic Train Protection etc.
Over Head line Communication System to Digital Transmission system including Fibre Optic based Communication System.

  • Electrical Signalling system for 25 stations of Iraqi Railways, (1982-88) - US$ 30 million.
  • Relay based Interlocking system for 25 stations with Centralized Traffic Control, Hot Box Detector, Flat Wheel Detector in Shahrood-Mashad Section of Iranian Railways (1999-2006) - US$ 25 million.
  • Design & Testing Support for Modernization of Signalling & Interlocking system for British Railways based at Sharjah & U.K. by deploying about 100 Signalling experts for more than one hundred thousand man-days for a decade (2001-2010) - US$ 13.8 million
  • Radio based CTC and Axle Counter based Block working for Zambian Railways, covering 850Km (1988-90) -    US$ 7.7 millon.
  • Solid State Interlocking with Centralized Traffic Control, Audio Frequency Track Circuits, Axle Counter, OFC based Communication system, telephone exchanges & all other signaling & telecommunication indoor & outdoor works for 3 stations for Malaysian Railways (1999-2002) - US$ 7.75 million
  • Relay Interlocking at 6 stations for Bangladesh Railways (1996-98) - US$ 2 million.
  • Modern Signalling & Interlocking system at 12 stations situated on Akhaura – Sylhet section of East zone of Bangladesh Railways (2006-2008) – US$7.5 million.
  • Solid State Interlocking at 4 stations & modification of existing Mechanical Signalling at 25 stations and modification of existing Relay Interlocking at 2 stations for Bangladesh Railways (2003-04) - US$ 3.82 million.

    Signalling
  • Design, Supply, Erection, Testing and Commissioning of Electronic Interlocking based Signalling system & Telecommunication system at 15 stations in Quazigund - Baramulla section (120 kms) of Northern Railway. The work involved mainly SSI at 15 stations along with tokenless block working, Block Proving Digital Axle Counter system, LC gates, IPS, networked Data Loggers, SDH based Optical Fibre Transmission system & equipment along with Quad cable based communication system for inter-station block working, Level crossing & Control Communication, Digital Exchange, VHF communication system etc. over the section of 120 kms – US$ 17.12 million.
  • Interlocking at 60 stations, more than 70% of them on 25 KV electrified route Rs.606 million (US$ 18.9 million).
  • Axle Counter based Block signalling for 26 stations on electrified route in Kota – Nagda section on Indian Railway (1990-94) Rs.37 million (US$ 1.2 million).
  • Relay Interlocking at 32 stations for Captive Railway networks (1997-2002) Rs.335 million (US$ 9.2 million).
  • Solid state Interlocking System at Simhadri for 2 stations of Power Generation Company (NTPC) (2001-2002) US$ 1.6 million.
  • Panel Interlocking System at Talcher for 4 stations of Power Generation Company (NTPC) US$ 0.96 million.

  • Optical Fibre based communication along electrified route on Indian Railways 432 Kms. (1999-2000) Rs.215 million. (US$ 5.6 million).
  • Telecommunication facilities for Gas pipeline Authorities (1999-01) Rs. 39 million. (US$ 0.9 million) .
  • OFC Communication on Ahmedabad-Baroda-Surat section of Indian Railways for commercial exploitation - 300 Kms (1999-2001) Rs. 150 million (US$ 3.75 million).
  • Indoor equipment for Indian Railways on Kharagpur – Khurda Road section along East- Coast mainline for 74 stations, Rs.83.4 million (US$ 2.2 million).
  • Indoor equipment for Indian Railways on Khurda Road - Vishakapatnam section along East- Coast mainline for 38 stations for Rs.59 million - US$ 1.5 million
  • OFC based communication system in Jaipur - Ahmedabad section of 690 Kms of Indian Railways - US$ 2.5 million.
  • OFC based communication system on Salem-Bangalore Section of South West Railway, Ballarshah-Kazipet-Bibi Nagar Section of South Central Railway, Hajipur-Muzaffarpur-Barauni Section of East Coast Railways, Malda-Rajgram Section of Eastern Railways - US$ 4.06 Million .
  • Salient features of On-going Projects
     
    Signalling.
  • Design, Supply, Erection, Testing and Commissioning of Signalling and Communication system for Electrified Double Track Project between Seremban to Gemas for KTMB, Malasia. Total Cost: US$ 95 Million.
    • Signalling system comprises of :
    1. Electronic Interlocking based Automatic Signalling system.
    2. Automatic Train Protection.
    3. CTC for Train Management System including Train Describer System, Train Timetable System, Automatic Route Setting and Automatic Train Reporting facility at two locations.
    • Communication system comprises of:
    1. Fibre Optic based communication system.
    2. Automatic Telephone Switching equipment.
    3. Pax type Signal Post Telephone system.
    4. Passenger Information system.
    5. Automatic Fare Collection system.
    6. CCTV and SCADA

  • Design, Supply, Erection, Testing and Commissioning of Signalling & Telecommunication system to suit 25KV, AC, 50 Hz, Single Phase RE in Mugalsarai - Sultanpur - Utratia section of Northern Railway. Total Cost: US$ 5.5 million.
  • Provision of Telephone Exchange, OFC based communication system, VHF etc. for setting up of Rail Coach Factory, Rae Bareili. Total Cost: US$ 2.25 million.
  • Design, Supply, Erection, Testing and Commissioning of Electronic Interlocking based Signalling system & Telecommunication system at 3 stations in Quazigund – Ex.Dharam section (56 kms approx.) excluding Dharam station of Northern Railway.

           The work involved mainly :
    • SSI at 3 stations namely Banihal, Arpinchala, Sumber (Laole) along with modifications at Quazigund station including tokenless block working, Block Proving Digital Axle Counter system, LC gates, IPS, networked Data Loggers etc.
    • SDH based Optical Fibre Transmission system & equipment along with Quad cable based communication system for inter-station block working, Level crossing & Control Communication, Digital Exchange, VHF communication system over the section of 56 kms.
    • Provision of leaky cable communication system, CCTV, PA system, Emergency Telephone & Wireless communication system in a tunnel of 10.8 kms in Quazigund – Banihal section of Northern Railway
